Grady Hendrix and I sure had a
blast writing 'em, and seems like readers enjoyed learning about
vintage forgotten horror fiction and writers. For this last post I reread and reviewed
Ray Russell's guilty-pleasure
Incubus, his 1976 novel of demonic perversity. You know you love it!

I've been a big fan of this novel for years, so I'm glad to see it get some exposure. Russell sure could write the hell out of a book, right? I actually just picked up an original copy of Haunted Castles, but alas, I've read/have most of the stories in there.
He could! I've recently acquired UNHOLY THREE and SARDONICUS collections, so have plenty more to read of him.
Sardonicus is fantastic; can't recommend it enough. I originally read it when I was 15 or so in Marvin Kaye's Masterpieces of Terror and the Supernatural, which, before the internet and 100 Best Horror Books was my go-to for "what to read". The "Recommended Reading" list from the end is pretty essential. It took me over ten years but I finally tracked down some Friedrich Durrenmatt works that haunted my imagination since I read of them. Really, really great book. Sorry, tangential.

Oh jeez, and I just remembered that collection also includes "The Night Wire" and "Eumenides In the Fourth Floor Lavatory" both of which, honestly, stick with me to this day as completely unexpected and unforgettable little horror vignettes.
