Prolific pulp-horror writer Guy N. Smith has passed at age 81, according to his website, from what looks to be COVID-19 complications. 2020 is just determined to squeeze out every last bit of misery from us, ugh. Maybe soothe yourself with even more Smith covers here and here. Be well, everybody.

That's sad news. He was prolific and you always knew you'd be in for a ride with one of his books. Damn Covid-19!
Sad indeed 😢
At the age of 12, I read my first "modern" horror novel: Smith's Alligators (a book in which the most grusome death is caused by slugs!)
How ironic that he would write multiple books about the country being assailed by epidemics (mishandled by government figures) only for this to get him!
Rest In Peace, Guy N. Smith. Your books have entertained me since my early teens. You shall forever live on within your novels.
RIP in peace, Mr. Smith. I remember reading "The Crabs"(?) when I was about ten & a huge James Herbert fan (before I matriculated out & on to King & Barker. Good fun...
Thanks for this lovely tribute and to all the people leaving comments - Dad would have been so touched and flattered to know he was remembered in this way. Tara (Guy’s daughter.)
Tara Smith, I am very happy to hear that. Thank you for commenting!
Was really saddened by the passing of Mr. Smith. Was with him from the very beginning: WEREWOLF BY MOONLIGHT.
He wrote consistently, and was never indifferent to his readers' expectations and passions. Definitely a "pulp horror" ambassador whose absence from the field is a noticeable one.
My favorites of his remain DEATH BELL, NIGHT OF THE CRABS, THE SUCKING PIT, MANITOU DOLL, LOCUSTS, BATS OUT OF HELL, and DOOMFLIGHT.
