Cool post. In fact, I own many of Tessier's novels, PHANTOM being the only one read. I've been meaning to return to his world. Maybe now, after reading this glowing essay, is the right time.
Excellent review of Tessier's work. Tessier's novel SECRET STRANGERS is one of my favorites. It had some poor reviews when released and is a bit obscure but I really liked it and wish it had more recognition. Also, he did a short story in BORDERLANDS called "Evelyn Grace" that is a major kick to the gut. That it's disturbing is an understatement.
Too Much Horror Fiction collects and reviews vintage horror literature (mostly from the 1960s to the early 1990s) and celebrates its resplendent paperback cover art. Welcome!
With Grady Hendrix, I co-wrote the Stoker Award-winning PAPERBACKS FROM HELL: THE TWISTED HISTORY OF '70s AND '80s HORROR FICTION (2017) from Quirk Books. I also own a couple thousand vintage paperbacks most of which are horror but also SF, crime, & general fiction. Always adding more to the home library!
Looking for a forgotten horror novel or short story? Remember the paperback cover art but not the title or author? Send me an email at toomuchhorrorfiction[at]gmail.com describing it and if I don't know it, one of my readers might!

And THOMAS TESSIER'S WORLD OF HURT anthology film is in the works!
@TTWorldofHurt on Twitter for info.
Authorfan - Do it! I have PHANTOM, SHOCKWAVES & THE FATES to get to reading as well...
Jeff - I *just* found out about that movie earlier this week & Tweeted about it. Thanks!
