Friday I'm in Love 3: George Ziel Gothic Cover Art

The late George Ziel was a paperback cover artist extraordinaire. I can't get enough of his style, and his work for the Gothic romance craze of the late 1960s and early '70s has become nearly iconic. Here are some dark, lovely Gothic ladies to enjoy, and for more about Ziel the man and the artist, be sure to visit Lynn Munroe Books, Unobtanium 13, and The Midnight Room.

Did you realize that Marilyn Ross is the wife's name of the author (Dan Ross) of all the Dark Shadows novels? The art on those covers look similar, excluding the ones that seem to be photos of the show cast.

Very funny to me that Lost Ecstasy gets the Gothic Treatment. It's a romance novel set in the American West and has ZERO Gothic elements.

I have that edition of WAX and every other Ethel Lina White book reprinted by Paperback Library Gothic series. Now her books are Gothics. My favorite of this lot is APPLESHAW. That could be a cover for a Gold Medal PBO.

Makes you wonder who was the model he used.

With covers like these I would gladly give gothic romances a try. Fantastic artwork.
