Stephen Gresham Born Today, 1947

According to his informative website, author Stephen Gresham wasn't thrilled with these Zebra paperback covers for his novels. Can't say I blame him, but looking back on 'em today, hoo boy. Awesome. Credit goes to illustrators David Mann (Runaway), Lisa Falkenstern (Rockabye Baby and Shadow Man), Jim Thiesen (Blood Wings) and Richard Newton (Abracadabra).

  1. Take two: Read a couple of his books back in the day. Not as bad as everyone might think. I personally enjoyed RUNAWAY, a cross between HENSEL & GRETEL and LORD OF THE FLIES.

  2. I recently read "Dew Claws"..... uh. Pretty boring. His writing is okay but there was literally no suspense or scares in the book. Would have been an okay YA novel, I suppose. I own "Blood Wings", so I'll give him another chance at some point.

  3. It's been a while since I read him, but I always liked Stephen Gresham's stuff pretty well. No huge classics or anything, but nicely done and entertaining, one of the better Zebra authors. I used to buy his books whenever I came across one... I should probably dig one of those out and give him a try again soon. Glad to see he's still working.

  4. I was happy to find his blog and that it was so complete and current. So many of these '80s authors simply disappeared.
