The story is all Bloch, absolutely - I definitely noted this in my recent review of the novel - but I still have to say Hitch & screenwriter Joseph Stefano made Bates a little more, shall we say, sympathetic. A minor change, but a large one, and a necessary one for a film adaptation.
Hitchcock gets so much credit for the STORY in the movie Psycho when in fact, he deviated very little from Robert Bloch's suspense thriller.
ReplyDeleteHitchcock deserves credit for some exceptional cinematography and directing. But the story is all Bloch.
