I should go back and finish up Cold Print. I'd read a good chunk of it on a recent flight but put it aside as soon as I came home.Alejandro Omidsalarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15539800558494273368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825351661748594023.post-42775872615697720002011-10-25T17:45:09.674-07:002011-10-25T17:45:09.674-07:00I like Campbell very much, and have enjoyed many a...I like Campbell very much, and have enjoyed many a moody evening reading him.

Just picked up 'Alone With the Horrors' recently. And though I'm not as fond of his "Lovecraft period" as I am with his later stuff, this isn't bad. He didn't really get good though, until he started writing in his own style (stories like "Calling Card" and "In The Bag").lazlo azavaarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08947137317385572671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825351661748594023.post-7827945558606056872010-05-19T18:44:13.479-07:002010-05-19T18:44:13.479-07:00Agreed: Mr. Campbell is best in short-form and you...Agreed: Mr. Campbell is best in short-form and your blog is 'fantastic'.

I just ordered William Hjorstberg's FALLING ANGEL (film adaption titled ANGEL HEART starring Mickey Rourke and De Niro, of course!), and found myself dumbfounded at the ludicrous (lucifer) cover art.

Great effing mix tho: hard-boiled and horror!Rusty Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16143817211151177797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825351661748594023.post-67291571915322471862010-05-19T16:45:55.199-07:002010-05-19T16:45:55.199-07:00Agreed -- I think Campbell is masterful in short f...Agreed -- I think Campbell is masterful in short form, and not quite as effective in book-length, where his overriding emphasis on mood and suspicious happenings can grow a bit tedious. Word for word, though, he's probably the best prose stylist in the horror field.

(Also, this blog is fantastic -- I read a lot of those 80s horror novels and it's great to see them get some love)Chucknoreply@blogger.com
